Loading a Dishwasher
in 8 Easy Steps
Loading a dishwasher properly ensures your dishes come out clean and undamaged. Here's how to do it like a pro!
1. Preloading: Scrape Off Food:
Before loading, scrape off leftover food into the trash.
Do not rinse dishes because dishwashers are designed to handle it and the soap needs some grease to work properly (Fun fact).
2. Load the Bottom:
Plates and Big Items: Place plates and large bowls on the bottom, positioning them between the prongs with the dirty side leaning inward so that they get clean.
Don’t pack them too tight or they won’t get clean.
3. Load the Top:
Cups and Glasses: Put them upside down between the prongs to make sure they don’t fall over by moving when the dishwasher is on.
Small Bowls: Place them at an angle to allow water to reach all surfaces.
4. Load the Silverware:
Silverware Basket: Load forks and spoons with handles facing down for better cleaning. For safety, place knives pointed down. Don’t put too many forks or spoons together of they will stick together and not get clean.
Long Utensils: Lay items like spatulas flat on the top rack. If you put them in the silverware basket, they might block the water or break.
5. Avoid Overloading:
Make sure you leave room between all the dishes and glasses so that the water and detergent can clean everything. Overloading can lead to unsatisfactory cleaning results.
6. Add the soap in the soap container
7. Select the Appropriate Wash Cycle:
Choose a cycle based on the load's dirtiness and the types of dishes. Most modern dishwashers have sensors to help you with this.
8. Turn on the Dishwasher & Press Start!
